HIPAA Privacy Notice
This notice describes how medical information about you may be used and disclosed by Hill's Drug Store and how you can access this information. Please review it carefully.
Effective date: November 2026
Our Pledge of Privacy
At Hill's Drug Store ("Hill's," "we," "us," or "our"), located at 503 Cynwood Dr., Easton, Maryland, we understand that your personal and health information is private. We are committed to protecting the privacy of your Protected Health Information ("PHI") as required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 ("HIPAA") and applicable Maryland state law.
This Notice of Privacy Practices ("Notice") describes how we may use and disclose your PHI to carry out treatment, payment, and health care operations, and for other permitted purposes, and describes your rights regarding that information. We are required to follow the terms of this Notice while it is in effect.
1. Understanding Your Health Information
Each time you visit our pharmacy, a record of your visit is made. This record contains your symptoms, examination, test results, diagnoses, treatment, medications dispensed, and plans for future care. This information, often referred to as your chart or medical record, is the physical property of Hill's Drug Store, but the information belongs to you. This Notice explains how we safeguard that information.
2. How We May Use and Disclose Your Health Information
Under HIPAA, the most common reasons we may use and disclose your health information are described below. Not every use or disclosure in a category is listed; however, all of the ways we are permitted to use and disclose such information fall within these categories.
For Treatment
We may use your health information to provide, coordinate, or manage your pharmacy care and related services. For example, we may disclose information to your physician or other health care providers to coordinate the dispensing of prescriptions, discuss potential interactions, or confirm treatment plans.
For Payment
We may use and disclose your health information so that the treatment and services we provide may be billed to and payment collected from you, an insurance company, or a third party. For example, we may need to provide your health plan with information about a medication you received so they will pay us for the claim.
For Health Care Operations
We may use and disclose your health information for our pharmacy operations. These uses are necessary to run our practice and make sure all of our patients receive quality care. Examples include quality assessment and improvement activities, reviewing the performance of our pharmacists and staff, training of students, licensing, accreditation, and certification activities, and conducting or arranging for medical review, legal services, and auditing.
Appointment & Refill Reminders
We may use and disclose your health information to contact you about refilling a prescription, to remind you that you have an appointment, or to notify you that a medication you have ordered is ready for pickup or delivery.
Treatment Alternatives & Health-Related Benefits
We may use and disclose your health information to tell you about or recommend possible treatment options or alternatives, or about health-related benefits or services that may be of interest to you.
Individuals Involved in Your Care
We may disclose your health information to a family member, friend, or other person who is involved in your care or payment for care, provided you agree or, if you are unable to agree, where disclosure is in your best interest as determined by our professional judgment, and limited to information directly relevant to that person's involvement.
As Required By Law
We will disclose your health information when required to do so by federal, state, or local law.
